The latest additions to ARRI Rental UK's lens inventory

ARRI Rental UK's Leica Summilux-C cine lenses are comprised of 12 focal lengths from 16 mm to 135 mm. They combine a T1.4 maximum aperture with a small, comfortable size and very high optical performance.

The Leica Summilux-C primes feature a unique multi-aspheric design and high-precision cine lens mechanics to provide unmatched flat field illumination across the entire 35 mm frame and suppression of color fringing in the farthest corners of the frame with no discernible breathing. Apart from the 135 mm, all of the Leica Summilux-C lenses share a uniform length, as well as 95 mm front diameter, advanced distance focus scales, and similar location of focus and iris rings — which facilitates the quick interchange of lenses in a busy production environment.

At T 1.4 the Leica Summilux-C prime lenses are among the fastest modern lens sets available, but they are also designed to perform at their best when wide open.

The biggest complaint about 35 mm cinema lenses has always been their large size intended to accommodate a focus ring with more witness marks. The Summilux-C lenses feature a patented focusing mechanism that eschews the logarithmic focusing of the past by expanding the focus scale in the most critical range. This means the separation between focus marks is increased for mid- and long distances, a big help for the focus puller.

Their unique design allows these lenses to be far smaller than any existing lenses below T2.0. At just 142 mm (5.6”) long and weighing between 3.5 and 4 pounds (1.6-1.8 kg), lens changes are easier and safer. Smaller lenses also result in smaller, lighter camera packages, as well as significantly smaller rigs.

Light path

The use of exotic aspherical elements in each Leica Summilux-C lens creates a telecentric path of light from the rear element to the sensor. Telecentricity and aspheric correction not only reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing, but also create a more even illumination across the entire field. Add in an already large image circle and the Summilux-C lenses are the perfect companions for larger digital sensors.
